About Gail
A lifelong love story with miniature donkeys.
A Little Girl, a Nativity Scene, and a Dream
When Gail Guy was just 9 years old, she attended a live Nativity scene with her family. Standing there in the cold, she fell completely in love with the miniature donkeys — the same kind that carried Mary to Bethlehem in the Christmas story. That moment never left her.
Decades later, in 2004, Gail finally made her dream a reality. She purchased her first three miniature donkeys from a man in Hendersonville, North Carolina, and brought them home to her farm on Rocky Branch Road in Canton. What started as three has grown into a herd of nearly 50.
Every donkey at Rocky Branch Longears carries a natural cross marking on its back — a detail Gail sees as a quiet reminder of the faith that started it all.
Gail & Randy Guy
Today, Gail and her husband Randy run the farm together on 40 acres in the mountains of Western North Carolina. Randy travels throughout the region with their granddaughter Frankie, introducing the donkeys to schools, therapeutic programs, autism camps, and brain injury farms — sharing the same joy that Gail felt as a little girl.
The donkeys are more than a business. They are companions, healers, and a connection to something bigger. Gail's homemade apple nuggets — a mixture of apple and grain — are their favorite treat, and every Christmas each donkey gets a peppermint candy.
